The Rénoclimat Grant: What Are the New Changes?

Overview

For some time now, the Rénoclimat program has provided many Quebecers with subsidies to help reduce their home’s energy consumption through energy-efficient renovations. As of May 1, 2024, the program has been updated to focus more on building exteriors. This includes renovations to windows and doors, insulation upgrades, and certain mechanical measures.

Here is a list of some of the changes introduced as of May 1ˢᵗ, 2024:

  • Financial assistance will be increased for several renovation projects as mentioned above, including window and door replacements, which increase from $60 to $150 as of May 1ˢᵗ, 2024.
  • The installation of geothermal heating systems and heat pumps will no longer be eligible for financial assistance. However, there will be a transitional period for those who apply before May 1ˢᵗ, 2024. The post-retrofit assessment visit must be completed by September 30ᵗʰ, 2024, to qualify for financial assistance.
  • As of May 1ˢᵗ, 2024, a $150 fee will now be charged for energy evaluation visits prior to work being carried out. This fee will be reimbursed if financial assistance is granted and all eligibility criteria for the grant are met.
The first post-retrofit evaluation will remain free of charge.
  • Multipliers for insulation measures in multi-unit dwellings have also been increased.
